Supporting Cared for Children
At Henson Crisp we feel it is important to support charities and our local community in whatever way we can. For this reason we regularly donate to a number of charities, both local and national, in addition to supporting a number of local organisations.
We have recently donated 40 Flower Power! books for Cared for Children in Peterborough ensuring that more children would have a present to open this Christmas.
What is Flower Power Book?
Flower Power Book is a charity which provides (registered in England & Wales no.1196754) educational resources to improve children’s emotional health and wellbeing. The project is centred around the picture storybook Flower Power! by author Caroline Wedd and its accompanying set of 8 original songs and 3 pieces of instrumental music.
Flower Power! contains a powerful message about love, encouragement, resilience and perseverance.
What is a Cared for Child?
A Cared for Child is a child who is in the care of their local authority for a variety of reasons, this may be due to neglect, abuse or the loss of their parents/family members. These experiences can leave children with complex emotional and mental health needs.
Cared for Children often don’t receive many Christmas presents; the Flower Power! story is easy to understand for children of all ages and sends them a powerful message of hope, encouragement to believe in themselves and reassurance that help is always at hand. The child’s carers can use the book to open up conversations about emotional health in a safe way; there are also free resources to accompany the book to support carers as they nurture the children in their care.
Gifting to Cared for Children
On 5th November, 2023, one of our Trustees, Wendy Leiter, and her partner, Vince Wilson, successfully completed the New York City Marathon raising donations to enable Flower Power Book to gift books to Cared for Children aged between 2 to 7 years at Christmas time.
So far, Flower Power Book has been able to gift 575 books to Cared for Children throughout Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Stoke on Trent and Peterborough.
