Every December, many of us sit down with a stack of Christmas cards, ready to send a little festive cheer through the post. It’s a lovely tradition, but over the past few years we’ve chosen to do something a little different.
choosing impact over tradition
Instead of buying and posting Christmas cards, we donate the equivalent cost to our local food bank, part of the Trussell Trust network. It’s a small shift in habit that has become one of the most meaningful parts of Christmas at Henson Crisp.
Why Food Bank Donations Matter More Than Ever
The rising cost of living means more people than ever are turning to food banks for support. A few pounds here and there - the price of cards, stamps, envelopes, can quickly turn into meals, essentials, and breathing room for families who need it most.
So this year, just as we have for the past few years, we’re keeping the tradition going. No cards. No stamps. Just a food donation to help make sure people in our community have what they need this winter.
Why We Donate in January Instead of December
As many other businesses donate to food banks in the lead up to Christmas, we will be deferring our donation to January, when food banks need donations most.
Thank You for Supporting This Tradition
If you used to receive a card from us, please know that your goodwill has simply been redirected into something practical and supportive. And if you’re considering doing something similar, the Trussell Trust website makes it easy to donate or find your nearest food bank.
Christmas is about connection, kindness, and looking out for one another, and this small act feels like the best expression of that.
Wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and happy New Year.
Christmas Opening Hours
As a reminder, we’ll be closed from 5pm on 23rd December 2025 and reopen at 9am on 5th January 2026.
