Henson Crisp independent financial advisers in Peterborough and Cambridge
Seeking financial help is rarely just about money. For many people, the need for advice begins with a significant life event - moments that can feel overwhelming, emotional, and full of uncertainty. From the very first time you speak to us, whether by email or over the phone, we take the time to understand what has brought you to this point and what matters most to you.
Life can change without warning, and these changes often come with difficult decisions. Many people reach out to us after experiences such as:
- Divorce
- Loss
- Redundancy
- Receiving an inheritance
- Selling a business
- Serious illness/long term care needs

These events are deeply personal. They often bring a mixture of emotions - from stress and confusion to grief, relief, or hope for a new start. Our role is to walk alongside you during these times, helping you feel heard, supported, and informed.

Why financial planning support for life events matter

Research shows that major life changes are one of the most common reasons people seek financial help. According to the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) Financial Services Consumer Panel, nearly nine in ten consumers (86%) experienced a life event that triggered the need for advice over the past five years.

Yet, the FCA’s latest Financial Lives Survey found that only 9% of adults received advice about pensions or investments in the previous 12 months. This means many people are facing emotional and financial challenges alone, often at a time when reassurance and clarity would make a real difference.

How Henson Crisp supports you through life events

We don’t believe in one size fits all financial planning. Instead, we focus on understanding your circumstances, listening to your concerns, and helping you move forward at a pace that feels right for you.

Retirement planning

After a long working life, thinking about retirement can feel exciting, but it can also bring questions or worries. We specialise in helping people approaching or already in retirement make confident, informed decisions about their future. Our aim is to ensure you get to enjoy your later years exactly as you imagined, or even better.

Business exit and sale planning

Selling or exiting a business can be one of the most significant moments in a person’s financial and personal life. We work closely with business owners to navigate this transition, providing calm, considered guidance during what can be both an emotionally and financially complex process.

Pensions on divorce services

Having to manage your finances on top of an emotionally tumultuous time such as divorce isn’t easy. It’s natural for you to have concerns about your finances, your home and your future. We are here to support you in looking forward to a brighter, more positive future whilst helping you make confident financial decisions.

Vulnerability and life events

Financial advice firms have a duty of care to their clients. Life events, as well as other factors may trigger a vulnerability assessment – meaning that we may need to adapt our process in a way that better supports you such as adjusting how we communicate or offering flexible appointments such an online meetings or shorter sessions. Our two meeting rooms also allow enough space if you would feel more comfortable bringing a loved one to support you.

We understand that opening up about personal challenges can feel daunting. We have created a simple, confidential questionnaire that you can download by clicking the button below. Feel free to print this out and bring it along to your next meeting, or you can send it to us at enquiries@hensoncrisp.com

A human approach to financial planning

Whether you’re dealing with loss, starting again after a divorce, preparing for retirement, or making decisions about long term care, our priority is to ensure you feel understood, respected, and empowered.

You don’t need to navigate these moments alone, we’re here to help when you’re ready.
